With the Managed Internet solution from BSS your cruise ship is always connected to the Internet. Without the need for any form of control or intervention on the part of your personnel.

The solution is unique among its kind. A so-called multi-channel router connects a number of 3G or 4G sim cards to the internet. By using non-exclusive data contracts the sim card is not dependent on one single provider, but is able in principle to make a connection with every provider. However the access to the internet is not direct, but is routed via a secure environment. By stacking connections it is possible to achieve bandwidths of up to 60 mbit.

The central Internet access is enveloped in a high degree of security and filtering. This makes it possible to ensure secure Internet access at all times, and find the balance between guest satisfaction and costs.

Passenger Management System

The BSS Passenger Management System combines the day-to-day management tasks of a traveling hotel with a high level of reliability and flexibility. Hosted on a central “virtual” duplicate server environment.

This enables:

  • Registration of your guests on board for checking in and out
  • Front and back office for all your reception tasks
  • Sales of excursions
  • Sales from the on-board shop(s)
  • Gangway security by means of mobile scanners for day to day passenger registration
  • Touch Point of Sale system
  • Potential for integration with the Infotainment system, such as a personalised welcome message, a personalised message from the housekeeping team, a preview of guest’s checking account.

The term ‘Infotainment’ is very broad in meaning. It covers everything from analogue TV reception, Internet access and conferencing facilities to IP TV and Audio & Video On Demand servers, with wireless access in all areas.

It is a fast moving market, with a constant stream of new developments. With the right adaptable concept, extensive knowledge of the maritime industry, and the ability to listen to what our clients really want, we can offer you a “made-to-measure” solution. Real 24/7 IT support

Real 24/7 support from the BSS Service Desk

With our head office in the Netherlands and our own support office in Budapest we can guarantee you real 24/7 support for all your on-board ICT related problems. This support is largely proactive. In addition, if desired, we can visit your ships and provide IT support on the day your new guests are embarking.

In addition to 24/7 telephonic contactability via a single telephone number, problems can also be reported via our Service Desk portal. We will then ensure that one of our employees or partners resolves your problem in no time. Besides this your management can follow developments via an email ticket, or live via the portal.

This means that you can focus fully on ensuring your guests enjoy their stay on board your river cruise ship.


About BSS

History of the company

Batavier Software Support (BSS) began in 1994, with the aim of offering ICT solutions to medium/large SME businesses in the Netherlands; hardware, software and other IT office requisites. As the need for internet grew, so did the need for a dependable, good, network; having the right services and support became even more important for businesses. “Carefree ICT” became the BSS slogan.

In 2006 BSS was asked to supply a computer network for the ship MS Amadagio, a five-star river cruise ship owned by Amawaterways. Today we manage the ICT for a number of river cruise shipping lines, we are onboard a total of 42 ships. Cruising most of the central European rivers, we also provide support services for river cruise ships in France, Portugal, Spain and Italy. The MPS de Zonnebloem, a very familiar name to many in the Netherlands, is also one of BSS’ clients.

Company profile

Most of our clients are well known four, five and six-star shipping lines. These days Internet is a primary necessity of life in these sectors. Most of the passengers are retired wealthy Americans or Australians who are taking their trip of a lifetime, and they want to be able to share this with the folks back home via social media. If the Internet is down for just one day people will start talking about damage claims. Everybody brings at least an iPhone, iPad or MacBook with them on board so that they can share all their experiences and photos. This means, based on an average of 80 cabins on board, that you need a substantial bandwidth. BSS has found a solution for this which keeps the costs for the shipping line manageable and transparent, enabling them to offer secure internet to both guests and crew members.
